UK NATS has recently improved it’s APP detailing how the UK Airspace works. Helpful for visitors to UK airspace!

There are some differences UK airspace versus rest of Europe airspace that could appear offputting to some pilots intending to visit the UK

  • For routine UK flights outside of controlled airspace;  a “Basic service” (Other more comprehensive services are available) would often be requested by a pilot when in communication with an ATSU. Compared to  “ For Flight Information” usually requested in other parts of Europe.
  • Transits of UK airways VFR should be regarded as not possible.
