Bob Borger talks about the conversion of his Monowheel Europa to a Tri-Gear

After being blown off the runway on takeoff and into a ground loop at 40 kts, it was decided to convert the aircraft from Monowheelto Tri-gear. This album documents this conversion and repair work. The album is not comprehensive as I often was up to my elbows in epoxy, fiberglas, Araldite and other nasty things when I would have wanted a picture or two. Still, you should be able to get an idea of what was involved.
"I would be a mono man myself today if I were operating only from turf. Unfortunately, I have to operate from a hard surface runway in Texas where the winds can be quite wild. I became quite tired of being blown off the runway. Not the second time blown off, but the second time I was blown off the runway and my expensive prop was damaged too, I had enough! It was time for a conversion. The conversion isn’t something you on take lightly. If one of the persons doing the conversion has a goodly amount of experience with it, it will take two people 7-10 days working full time. Then there is the refinishing work."
