Europa Flyer and Tech Talk Index

index

When using the Index, you may find that some articles refer to Tech Tip.  These were published by the factory and copies are under the Building tab, Factory Tech Tips.  The hyperlinks in the index will take you directly to the selected article.

Also in 2021 a series of original Europa Club Tech Talk video webcasts from The Europa Club were introduced. There are recordings of live sessions of with the membership. They are available here

The amount of information available to Members from the website has increased enormously over the last few years, which has sometimes resulted in specific items being difficult to locate within the website. The sterling work of previous and current compilers in indexing the Europa Flyer and Tech Talk Index each month has gone a long way in helping members locate specific articles in these publications. The further addition of the Bud Yerly Notes under the Building Section of the Website has greatly enhanced the plethora of information available to Member. To help Members find specific items within these, and all other areas of the Website, we have introduced a global Search Facility, (only available to logged in Members) from the Home, and all other Pages on the Website. The Search Facility is located on the right hand side of any page, as seen in the examples below, highlighted in yellow.

Entering a term in here, and clicking on the spyglass at the side of the box will return a list of pages containing that term, and hyper-links, to take the user direct to that page. It is also

possible to use AND/OR terms within the Search Box. i.e. Monowheel AND brakes or Monowheel OR brakes to further

narrow down the search criteria. Results are listed out as hyperlinks and when you click through to a result, the search term will be highlighted in

yellow.

Bob Dawson

Bob Dawson

I retired in 2014 after 30 years in the IT business, when I sold my company specialising in Computer Systems for the Clothing, and Steel Stockholding Industries. From the early 1980’s, we developed specialist software systems for these Industries, initially on the MS-DOS platform, then UNIX, and latterly on the Windows Operating System.

Prior to this I spent 15 years in Management Services, working mainly in the Clothing Sector, but I also spent 4 years as a Consultant, gaining experience across a wide range of diversified Industries.

Flying Experience

Like many others of my generation, my early flying experience was courtesy of the Air Training Corps, where I had flights in a variety of powered aircraft, and gained my Gliding Proficiency Certificate at RAF Sealand. My interest in aviation was re-ignited in 2010, when a chance meeting at a Dinner Party led to a flight in a Mono Wheel Europa. In 2011, I went to Florida to get my PPL, and have been learning to fly ever since.

Special Skills and Experience

My working life gave me skills in Computer Programming and Hardware, and latterly in Finance and Business Administration. Since gaining my PPL, and until my Europa first flew, I was a member of a syndicate, and have experience flying the following aircraft: PA-28, Cessna 150, Cessna 152, Cessna 172, TB-10 and Cessna 182

Aircraft & Current Status

In 2015, I acquired a part built Tri-Gear Europa XS (Kit No. 333, G-NHRJ, the “Snow Goose”). My main contribution to completing the kit was to carry out various MODS required since 2005, and to fit a completely new “Glass” Control Panel. The maiden flight of the Snow Goose took place on 21st February 2018, and I am now flying her as often as possible.

General

I am married to Carole, and have three grown up daughters, and six grandchildren. I live in Sheffield, and fly from Retford-Gamston Airport. Apart from flying and building aircraft, my other interests include golf, racket ball, and snooker.
