Neville Eyre’s improved-cooling cowling set are available again
You may know that Neville Eyre designed and produced new-shape engine cowlings that improve airborne cooling performance. Composite expert Rob Martin has acquired the set of moulds that Neville made, and is now able to offer these cowling sets in gel-coat finished Glass Fibre from his workshop in Bedford, UK. Rob has extensive experience in both GF and CF structures and is currently building the Electro Flight/Rolls Royce e-NXT. Rob was production manager / lead build on the e-Go SSDR as well as lead build on the Silver Arrow watchkeeper drone and a Formula 1, Indy car - working with Cambridge university on their eco racers.
Rob is making the cowls using Neville’s moulds and use the exact layup and resin specification that is approved in the UK’s LAA Type Approval Data Sheet document – meaning that (in the UK), they only need an inspector’s check and signature to fly on new and existing Europas. Given his extensive experience in both GF and CF layups and his good connection with Andy Draper, Rob is also considering the potential for a set of cowlings made in Carbon Fibre – which whilst more expensive, should save further weight.
The builder/installer will still need to extend the depth of the aluminium ductwork under the exhaust and install a set of baffles from aluminium sheet in the upper engine bay.
