The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is consulting on its proposed approach to an Electronic Conspicuity Mandate for certain aircraft operating below Flight Level 100 in UK sovereign airspace, and how any future requirement should be designed and implemented.

Crewed aircraft: what standard would apply?
Your aircraft is in scope. The technical standard you would need to meet depends on your
aircraft's speed: Less than 140 knots: you would need to carry and use a 1090MHz ADS-B
device with a Signal Integrity Level (SIL) and System Design Assurance(SDA) of at least 1. Some CAP 1391 approved devices meet this standard. Alternatively, a TSO-C112 and TSO-C166 compliant transponder with extended squitter connected to a TSO-C199 class B or TSO-C145 GNSS source would also comply.
More than 140 knots: you would need to carry and use a Mode S transponder with ADS-B extended squitter functionality, with SIL of 3 and SDA of 2. This would typically be a TSO-C112 and TSO-C166 compliant transponder connected to a TSO-C145 GNSS source.
